One person has been rescued from a blazing block of flats after it was engulfed by fire.

Two more people were treated for smoke inhalation after the fire broke out in Donald Hall Road, Brighton, at 5.38pm today.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent four pumps and firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the three-storey block of flats which was badly damaged by the smoke and flames.

Another 12 people who were evacuated from the building were taken to a community centre down the road.

Sussex Police closed the road and diverted the traffic while the blaze was extinguished. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
