Adapt a box help tackle graffiti

Cityclean has linked up with Virgin Media to help keep their street side boxes free of graffiti.

The council is asking residents who have a box directly outside their property to consider ‘adopting’ it. Adopting a box means you can help keep the area around your property clean and tidy. You’ll be given free materials, help, advice and an ‘adoption’ certificate.

The scheme is part of a city-wide crackdown on graffiti. The council’s graffiti removal team are out on the streets seven days a week removing ‘tags’. They also work with Network Rail and BT to get graffiti cleaned off street furniture quickly, and with the Royal Mail to paint postboxes with an anti-graffiti coating.

It’s part of a council initiative to stamp out graffiti in the city and to encourage local people to get involved by adopting a box in their area. The launch also marks the start of ‘Not in My Neighbourhood Week’ a Home Office initiative to raise awareness of the work being done locally to tackle crime and anti social behaviour.

Research shows that if graffiti is removed quickly, it is less likely to occur in future.

If you are interested in adopting a box near you.
