ENJOY READING WITH ‘LIFELINES’
  •     Are you over 50 and looking for something different at your library?
  •     Would you be happy to share your love of reading and help keep that experience alive for older members of your community?
  •     Do you know someone or do you yourself have trouble accessing books due to difficulties with sight, mobility, health, confidence or other reasons?

A scheme that offers grants to improve the energy efficiency of homes and help residents save money is to be extended to include families with children under 16.

It is estimated that the new Family Insulation Grant could benefit around 3,500 families. It will initially be available to private residents with young families living in homes with one or two bedrooms. Subject to funding, the council will also extend the scheme to a wider range of households in the future.

Councillor Maria Caulfield, Brighton & Hove’s cabinet member for housing, said: "Many families with young children are facing rising fuel bills, as well as mortgage or rent payments and have little disposable income.

Hello There,

City Reads 2009 will be launched on March 12th and will run until the
closing event at Brighton Festival on Saturday 23rd May.

If you have a little time to spare during the reading period and would like
to get involved in the project, we'd love to meet you. Why not come along to
our volunteer meeting:

Thursday 26th Feb 6.30pm - 7.30pm at Jubilee Library (Please RSVP if you
will be attending – off list please)

We are looking for:

Bookcrossers ( Would you like to leave a copy of this year's book somewhere
in the city for someone to find?)
Event helpers (Would you like to help at either of our 2 launch events and
other events during the reading period?)
Marketing Distributors (Have you time to occasionally top up our brochures,
flyers and posters at key areas around the city?)
Manning City Reads' stalls (Would you be prepared to enthuse readers about
the project? This could be for you)

Come along and hear which book has been chosen and how you can get involved.

Hope to see you there.

Best wishes,

Sarah Hutchings
