Bristol Estate Artist Studio Project
is a partnership between the Arts Unit of Brighton & Hove City Council and the Bristol Estate Community Association and has been funded by SEEDA. It has developed 4 unused ground floor spaces
in residential blocks on the Bristol Estate into 7 artist studios. This has created approximately 160 square metres of brand new purpose built studio space.
§ The spaces are particularly suited for visual artists who do not use
noisy machinery or make noise as part of their practise.
§ They are south facing with great natural light, and in some cases sea
views. Studios are mostly in pairs, with their own separate entrances.
§ Each studio is an open room approximately 20 square metres in size, with
running water and shared toilet between each pair of work spaces. One
studio is 40 square metres and is wheelchair accessible.
§ Rents are approximately £6.25 square metre a month. A 20 square metre
studio will cost £125 a month, plus utility bills. Surplus from letting the
studios will be spent on improving the Bristol Estate.
